Retirees of Gloucester Public Schools
Retirement is considered a life event. At the time of retirement, you may choose to enroll in, change, or terminate medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plan(s). Below you will find information on the benefits available to you, and the rates and enrollment/change forms for each.
Once retired, if you choose to enroll in benefits, your premium payments will be deducted from your pension check (MTRS or Gloucester Contributory) monthly.
RETIREE BENEFIT RATES (Health, Dental, & Vision)

HEALTH INSURANCE
Under age 65 at retirement:
If you are under age 65 at the time of retirement, you may remain enrolled in your current GIC health insurance plan. The cost of the insurance is the same, but it is now billed monthly and deducted from your pension check through MTRS or Gloucester Contributory.
Over age 65 at retirement:
If you are over the age of 65 at the time of retirement, you may now be eligible for Medicare Part B. Medicare will become your primary insurance and the GIC Medicare Supplement plan will be your secondary insurance. The payment for health insurance will be deducted monthly from your pension check through MTRS or Gloucester Contributory.
Turning 65 while in retirement:
As of your 65th birthday, you may now be eligible for Medicare Part B. Medicare will become your primary insurance and the GIC Medicare Supplement plan will be your secondary insurance. The payment for health insurance will be deducted monthly from your pension check through MTRS or Gloucester Contributory.
MEDICARE ENROLLMENT
Whether you are actively employed or retired, you are urged to enroll in Medicare Part A upon turning 65. Medicare Part A is free.
Gloucester Public School employees do not need to sign up for Medicare Part B until they are retired from Gloucester Public Schools.
Medicare Part A:
Enroll in Medicare Part A three (3) months prior to turning 65 with Social Security.
Three ways to enroll:
1. Online at SocialSecurity.gov
2. Calling Social Security at 1-800-772-1213 Monday-Friday from 7:00am-7:00pm
3. In-person at your local Social Security office
Medicare Part B:
If you retire before turning age 65:
Enroll in Medicare Part B three (3) months prior to turning age 65 while in retirement.
If you retire after turning age 65:
Enroll in Medicare Part B three (3) months prior to your effective retirement date.
Enroll by completing and returning the following forms to your local Social Security Office:
1. Employee Form CMS-40B
2. Employer Form CMS-L564
You will have three (3) ID cards – one Medicare card, one GIC health plan card and one prescription drug card.
DENTAL INSURANCE
As a retiree, you can choose to keep your dental insurance into retirement. Gloucester Public Schools does not cover any portion of dental insurance after retirement. You will be responsible for 100% of the dental insurance premium. The premium will be deducted from your pension check through MTRS or Gloucester Contributory.
VISION INSURANCE
As a retiree, you can choose to keep your vision insurance into retirement. Gloucester Public Schools does not cover any portion of vision insurance. You are responsible for 100% of the vision insurance premium. The premium will be deducted from your pension check through MTRS or Gloucester Contributory.
BASIC LIFE INSURANCE
As a retiree, you can choose to keep your Basic Life & AD&D Policy into retirement. Your policy is valued at $2,000 after retirement. The premium is deducted from your pension check through MTRS or Gloucester Contributory.
