Through The Standard, Gloucester Public Schools offers a Basic Life and AD&D Policy to full-time, eligible employees. This policy helps protect your loved ones from financial hardship in the case of a loss or severe accident. To complement the basic life policy, you have the option to elect additional life insurance for yourself and/or your dependents.

In addition to Life and AD&D, Gloucester Public Schools offers you the ability to purchase Short-Term and/or Long-Term Disability Insurance. Disability Insurance is a special type of insurance that protects your ability to earn a paycheck if you experience a serious injury or illness.

What is the Basic Life & AD&D Policy?

The Basic Life and AD&D Policy is a $5,000 policy paid out to your designated beneficiary if the unthinkable happens. If you'd like to enroll in the Basic Life and AD&D policy, we highly recommend you do so at your time of hire. If you choose to wait and add it at a later date, you may be subject to a Health Screening Questionnaire through The Standard.

What is the Difference Between Short-Term and Long-Term Disability Insurance?

Generally, short-term disability insurance is intended to cover you for a short period of time following a covered illness or injury that keeps you out of work. Short-term disability payments are paid out on a weekly basis and pay out a higher percentage of your salary, but only for a short period of time.

Long-term benefits are typically paid out on a monthly basis and at a smaller percentage of your salary, but you receive benefits for a much longer period of time.

Depending on the type of illness or injury keeping you out of work, you may be able to exhaust your short-term disability and then utilize your long-term disability insurance.
